Climatic Dog Beds And Dog Bed Warmer
Every dog needs a bed or bedding of some sort, but special needs dogs may require special bedding to keep them comfortable.
Some pet beds offer special heating or cooling options to keep your pet more comfortable. Cooling pet beds are great in hot summer weather, especially when you do not have central air or you keep your dog outside in a doghouse. In this situation, the dog house should be a well-ventilated one that is made for reducing the heat, not a dog house made to insulate the heat from your dog.
Heating dog beds are a special comfort in winter and especially to older arthritic dogs. Similarly, heating pads can be used, but they should be heating pads made for dogs, not people, because dog-specific brands are made to withstand chewing.
Regardless of the dog bed you choose, you need to ensure that it is good quality, will last and is easily cleanable. That means you can either throw it in the washing machine and dryer easily or you can easily remove the cover and wash and dry that.
Dog beds and bedding eventually tend to smell and can even house parasites like fleas, so ease of cleaning is very important if you do not intend to replace the bed or bedding often. Many pet beds, even the more expensive ones, are not easy to clean. So make sure you consider this before buying because dog beds can be very expensive—anywhere from $30 to well over $100. Don’t just shop the large pet stores for pet beds because you can get fleeced for your dog’s fleece; instead, look at online retailers as well as large department stores with pet sections like Target or Kmart. You can find surprisingly high-quality dog beds for reasonable cost. (Target had a large cedar-filled dog bed with removable outer cover for easy washing for just $45. It is similar to the dog bed found in LL Bean for over $80. It was so tempting that it not only attracted the dog of one buyer but also her three cats! So, now four animals are cozying up to this cedar bed.)
Some dog beds are made specifically for indoor or outdoor use. Determine what you will need the bed for, whether it’s in the corner of a room or in his doghouse, and then determine whether you’ll need to buy two (one outer and one inner). You don’t want to use one for both purposes as you can bring in outside dirt, bugs or other critters.
Some dog beds can cost much more when made to look more like furniture or more funky in designer aspects. If it’s just about appearance, save yourself the cash and instead invest in a well-made pet bed that is easy to clean and that provides the best comfort for your dog.
