Transport Dog Crates - Providing the Right Resting Place for Your Dog While On The Move
All animals need to have a place of their own to go to for rest and quiet. Even if your dog sleeps on your bed from time to time, he should have a place he knows as his own. And for mobility purposes, invest in a transport dog crate.
Small dogs enjoy a small bed or a cozy basket lined with a soft blanket or towel to snuggle into. Large dogs can be given a cedar large dog bed, or even just a special rug in a corner of a room that he can learn is his own.
Whichever route you select, ensure that your pet sleeps on natural fabric with natural stuffing; that means, cotton, woven wool fleece or wool, feather or cedar chip lined. You can even make your own by buying woven wool fleece, which feels like the more costly sheepskin, from fabric stores and cutting enough that is larger than your pet’s body. Layer one on top the other and that’s all your dog needs!
Your pet may need different sleeping spots depending on the season - whether it’s hot or cold out.
You may find that a dog crate is better for your and your dog’s needs. Because in the wild, canines will naturally look for a cozy den to feel protected, a crate can be a good substitute. In buying a crate, you need to ensure that the dog has enough room to stand up, turn around and lay down. He does not need anymore room than that. With a crate, you’ll need a soft cozy bedding like a baby blanket and some toys to snuggle with or chew on. Do yourself a favor and make sure the toys in his crate are not squeaky toys. The noise can disturb him and you in the middle of the night.
Crating a dog brings benefits when you are teaching housebreaking or when you need to protect the environment from the dog such as when the dog chews furniture. A new dog or puppy shouldn’t be allowed free access when newly introduced into the house. He needs to be confined at first, then gradually introduced to the open spaces. A crate will provide him with the comfort of his own space especially during this introductory time. Prior to his arrival and while he is crated, you should address any toxic or dangerous elements in your house like exposed wires or objects that may be swallowed or access to toxic chemicals. Get down on your hands and knees and see what your new puppy or dog can get into.
Whatever dog bed accommodations you decide on, make sure the family understands that when the dog is in these locations, they are his personal areas and he is to be allowed peace and quiet when he seeks time there.
