Your Custom Dog House - DIY Or Hire A Builder

You have done your research. You know what size house your dog needs. You know what kind of weather that you have in your area and the materials that best protect your dog from those conditions. You have even determined what style of dog house best takes advantage of those materials and that complements your home. You are ready to bring your perfect dog house home! The only problem is that no single company makes the dog house of your dreams. One company uses the materials that you need, another might have the design. The only way that you are going to bring it all together is to do it yourself or to have a builder do it.

If you are a "handy" person, you might consider building your dog's house on your own. It is not hard to find commercially available blueprints for dog houses. They are readily available online, from specialized building companies. In many cases, it is possible to download a packet of several dog house blueprints for a small fee, which is often less than twenty dollars. In addition, these blueprints may be available at feed stores or at building supply stores.

If it is impossible to find an existing blueprint for the dog house that you desire, then it is also possible to find online companies that will design a blueprint to your specifications. Once you have your blueprint in hand you are now ready to buy your materials, cut them and prepare them, and eventually construct the house yourself. Many dog houses will only take a weekend or so to build, even for the inexperienced craftsperson.

If you need to go through all of this trouble, however, it might be easier to find someone to build the dog house for you. The same companies that have dog house designers also employ--or are run by--dog house builders. Some of these companies provide services and designs of quality similar to architects of human homes. Not only will they design your dog house for you, but they will also travel anywhere in the country to build it for you. Local builders might not have the extravagance of design; however, they are no doubt less expensive and they are frequently capable of doing work in less time than the larger companies.

Either way, a custom-designed and built dog house will cost you something more than an ordinary commercial house from a department store. In the end, you will probably end up with a construction of far greater value, however. Your dog house will be made of better materials and will last longer than one you buy from the store.
