Buying A Dog Kennel - Online Or Offline
When buying a dog kennel it is important to remember the adage "You get what you pay for." Although the rule does not always hold true, in general, dog kennels that cost less frequently end up costing more in the long run. This higher cost compared to the initial outlay is due to the greater amount of decay due to more fragile materials, leading to increased maintenance of the fence. Because value does not always accompany lower price, it then becomes important to know what you are buying from the retailer you choose.
Some buyers may choose to purchase their kennels online. This process can lead to relative disaster if the buyer is not cautious. However, if the buyer is careful and does research on both products and on retailers, buying online can be a cost effective method of purchasing a kennel for the family dog. Some of the advantages and disadvantage of buying online, as well as some of those that accompany buying from a retail store, are compared below.
Research: Research is easier to do online, hands down. It is possible to visit dozens, if not hundreds of sites in any given day. This permits the buyer to compare perhaps dozens of unique products online in any given day. This variety of products is usually not available in most communities; even if it were, then the cost in both time and gas to do such research might be too high for the average dog owner. Regardless of whether or not the dog owner should choose to buy online, doing research online can save time, effort, and money.
Cost: Online retailers often advertise cheap dog kennel prices. This fact is particularly true when buying used dog kennels for sale on online auction sites. The disparity between prices may be due to traditional retailers being forced to charge more for their products due to the greater costs they incur in employee salaries, building maintenance, and in maintaining a large supply of stock. By contrast, online retailers only have their warehouses to maintain, with the cost of employees salaries being dictated by the smaller staff needed to keep such an operation running. However, these online retailers often charge high fees for shipping and handling. If it is possible to find an online retailer that does not charge a shipping or handling fee for shipping heavy dog kennels, such as an extra large dog kennel, then online shopping may be the better value.
Time: Although the time saved during the research process may be significant, the savings may actually be illusory. The dog owner might be able to visit many shops online to compare products; however, the item or items being purchased still need to be shipped. Although there are fast shipping methods that the buyer might be able to use, choosing them will increase the cost of the purchase, negating the value associated with buying online. It might take longer to find a product driving around and making phone calls, but the time lost might actually be less than that lost waiting for a product to be shipped.
Finally, it almost goes without saying that there is no substitute for being able to see and touch products in person when making a purchase. Regardless, online purchases can be both cost-effective and efficient for those people who seek to make them.
