Dog Habitat - Every Dog Needs A Place That They Can Call Their Home. Home Sweet Home.

Why And When Is A Dog Kennel Necessary

You may have seen these ads: The local department or feed and grain store will advertise "plastic dog kennels" and "wooden dog kennels." Most often the price of these "kennels" will seem quite small, until you realize that the items these stores are selling are actually dog crates or small dog houses. Although these items are not the permanent homes that actual dog kennels might be, they are still valuable items for the dog owner to have on hand. It is not until the advertisements list such items as "aluminum dog kennels" and "stainless steel kennels" that they are likely to be advertising the full-sized structures most commonly associated with kennels.

Plastic dog kennels: This term is often used for high-impact plastic "airline-style" crates. These crates are invaluable for transporting a dog between home and the vet or for any other form of travel. As the name implies, the plastic dog kennel can also be used for shipping the dog by air. The term "plastic dog kennel" may also refer to a plastic "igloo-style" dog house.

Wooden Dog Kennels: The term "wooden dog kennel" often refers to the classic wooden dog house. Small wooden dog houses can provide valuable outside shelter for your dog. These kind of dog houses can be used inside a permanent chain link kennel or run.

Aluminum Dog Kennels: Aluminum dog kennels are a lighter-weight version of the traditional chainlink dog kennel. These kennels are sometimes available in kits. These kits can often be found at pet superstores or at feed and grain stores. Although they are also available online, shipping costs may be prohibitive. Aluminum dog kennels offer some benefits to the dog owner. They are lighter and easier to handle than steel kennels if the owner is erecting it him- or herself. In addition, aluminum dog kennels are less apt to rust than steel kennels. Although aluminum dog kennels are not quite as sturdy as steel kennels, this kind of kennel is fine for containing small dogs. Aluminum dog kennels are often less expensive than steel kennels.

Steel Dog Kennels: Steel dog kennels are those familiar structures often seen at boarding facilities. These kennels are heavy and sturdy, capable of containing even the largest dogs. Steel dog kennels are also long lasting, however, they may be prone to rust. This kind of kennel is often available as a modular kennel kit. These kits provide a relatively simple method for the pet owner to make a multiple-unit kennel without hiring a professional to do it for them. As with aluminum kennels, these kennels are available online or at pet superstores or feed and grain stores.
