Automatic Dog Water Bowl - No Need To Refill It Manually Ever
All pets, dogs included, require all-day access to a fresh clean source of water. An automatic water bowl offers several added benefits that make it a worthwhile investment for your dog.
Different types of automatic dog water bowls exist including those that use gravity to refill from an upside down bottle or those that have a filtration system that reflows the water instead of having the available water sit stagnate.
An automatic dog water bowl provides renewed source of water, so if you’re gone for several hours, you do not have to worry about your dog’s water bowl going empty. Second, many automatic water bowls have a filtration system that clean the water of impurities. Third, for those systems that have filters, the water recirculates through the system, which helps clean the water that has been in the bowl and also draws the dog to the water source with its constant fresh running flow.
Dr. Richard Pitcairn, author of “Dr. Pitcairn’s Complete Guide to the Natural Health for Dogs and Cats,” Rodale Press, does not recommend providing tap water to your dog because of the added fluoride and contaminants that can cause your dog health problems. He says that many such pollutants are known to cause cancer or kidney or liver disease. He recommends a water purifier for your family, dogs and other pets. Though the initial investment is more than what you would pay for bottled water, eventually the investment works out in the end.
Water filtration systems typically have carbon-based filters and protect you and your family from lead, chorine, some bacteria and dirt and sediment. Replaceable filters often last a year or two.
If your dog is housebound, ensure that there is always at least one water bowl of clean fresh water. Avoid giving your dog tap water or allowing him to drink from the toilet bowl. Both water sources can be contaminated and the latter source especially by cleaning and bleaching solutions that you use to sanitize your toilet.
Water bowls of all types need to be emptied, cleaned and refilled daily to ensure the water is fresh. Whether automatic or not, your dog’s water bowl should be in a place that is easily accessible. Dr. Pitcairn notes a tragic situation when one woman’s six cats all died after drinking from a stream near a landfill instead of their own water bowls. It is thought that the stream was contaminated with the dangerous chemical dioxin. Also ensure that the water bowl is kept in an area that will not get especially dirty such as from dust or bird droppings.
